As a portrait and wedding photographer in Spokane, Washington it is my job to be on the edge of creating new styles and using new techniques, to help my images pop! This photo is no exception, I created a custom ring-light. Most photographers know what a ring-light is. However instead of using flash as the light source mine is made to harness the power of the sun. This is a difficult technique to use without blinding the subject and often involves closing of the eyes and opening the eyes at exposure because, its BRIGHT! The shot was taken with my Canon 5D Mark III and a 28mm 1.8 lens with .9 ND over it.
Here is another shot I did with Jordan to test another technique with using a different reflector for close up portraits. This one was a simple setup with one reflector and me wearing a white shirt. I try to wear neutrals because if you wear a bright color such as pink blue red etc etc it will in fact show in the image whether it be in reflections on the eyes or actual color casts across the image on the subjects face. if I’m doing a shot as close as this outside I try to wear white because it gives me a bit more fill and can be used another light source if need be. The shot was taken with my Canon 5D Mark III and a 28mm 1.8 lens with .9 ND over it.
